About Ian Cook

Ian Cook is the former owner of I Cook Foods, a family-run business employing 41 local Victorians. Ian experienced firsthand the devastating impact of government and council corruption when his business was unlawfully shut down. 

This isn’t his opinion. A Supreme Court judge ruled that the closure of I Cook Foods was unlawful. Till this day, the Victorian Government has refused to compensate Ian for the illegal closure.  

SlugGate and Bike Boy

The closure of Ian’s business became known as the SlugGate scandal. The other corruption scandal Ian is campaigning on is the Bike Boy scandal.

Ian Cook spent more than 30 years building I Cook Foods, a Dandenong family business employing 41 people. In 2019, the business was shut down during a listeria investigation and later collapsed. 

SlugGate

The closure became known as the SlugGate scandal after a council health inspector reported finding a slug inside the factory. Ian has consistently alleged serious wrongdoing in the handling of the case.  SlugGate became a major reason Ian entered politics and continues to campaign for stronger government accountability.

Bike Boy

Ian is also campaigning for accountability over the Bike Boy case, involving a 2013 crash that left 15-year-old cyclist Ryan Meuleman critically injured. Daniel and Catherine Andrews have maintained that Catherine was driving and that Ryan rode into their vehicle. However, a cohort of crash and other experts, witnesses and official documents dispute the Andrewses claims. 

For Ian, both cases reinforce the same principle: people in positions of power should be properly scrutinised and held accountable.
